Conclusion Burg-Wächter Ranger N5S:

For a well-known brand name, the BURG WÄCHTER Ranger N5S offers a sobering test result.

The well-known two-barreled S1000 double-bit lock from SECU struggles with its rather idiosyncratically crafted locking mechanism, and a separate central locking mechanism operated by an opening handle is nowhere to be found in this cabinet. There is merely a rear grip handle for opening the door. The mounting options are also meager, with only one attachment point on the rear panel. A Fischer dowel with a metric machine screw is included, an unusual combination that doesn't promise any real stability. While the upper and lower locking bolts are screwed, the counterparts on the front locking rail are slotted and inserted into the locking bar, which should nevertheless ensure a secure hold. There is no adjustable shelf in this cabinet, but you can still fit a small handgun behind the wobbly soft foam holder. Otherwise, the cabinet features two door storage boxes that can be hung in three positions. A single cleaning rod holder is integrated into them. A well-designed emergency locking system operates a relocker, which, however, does not act on the housing but merely ensures that one of the locking bolts is held closed during an attack. The lock protection, with a piece of wood as a safety device, is an unusual way of using leftovers. Several retaining bolts inserted on the opening side are intended to prevent the door from being levered open. The hinge system comes with instructions on how to remove the door with two people, which in practice could prove to be a difficult task for some hobbyists. The weapon rack offers a distance of just under 52 mm from barrel center to barrel center, which is not sufficient for current 56mm optics to actually store five weapons with such optics side by side in this cabinet. With a bit of Tetris, you can fit a maximum of two long guns equipped with this type of equipment in it, at which point it's full. If you calculate it based on its usefulness, it's simply too expensive for two weapons.

The Burg Wächter Ranger N5S is neither fowl nor fish. Often sold through locksmiths and hardware stores, users will soon find that simply replacing a broken key will cost half a fortune. This isn't unlikely, as the die-cast aluminum key also operates the complex, bent locking mechanism. However, if a key is lost, the lock must be changed. This can only be done by a specialist, as the entire locking mechanism is still attached to this lock and must be readjusted. This quickly brings the price close to the new price of such a cabinet, a blessing for any locksmith.

Even though we're talking about small amounts of money here, we would have expected a different value for the money.
