• Where can I buy a good gun safe?

At Gunshome. Because the focus must first and foremost be on the perfect usability of the gun safe in your everyday life as a hunter, sport shooter, gun collector, or professional firearms carrier.

What do I need to pay special attention to when buying a new gun safe?

The gun safe must be suitable for the type of firearms to be stored. Weapons with mounted scopes or long bolt handles require more space in width and depth than simple rifles. Models with GUN-i-FLEX weapon holders give you exactly the flexibility you need in such cases.

Gun safe Class 0 or Class 1 – what are the differences?

Class 0 allows unlimited storage of long guns, but a maximum of 5–10 handguns, and provides insurance coverage of up to €40,000 (private).

Class 0 Models with Gun-I-Flex Holders Class 0 Models with Block Weapon Holders

Class 1 allows long guns and handguns in unlimited numbers together, and provides insurance coverage of up to €65,000 privately or €20,000 commercially – the recommended choice for sport shooters and hunters with multiple handguns.

Electronic lock or double-bit lock for the gun safe?

A certified electronic lock is the more practical choice for gun safes, as no physical key needs to be securely stored. Our certified brand electronic locks are reliable and virtually never require emergency opening via an additional double-bit lock system. The batteries are always located externally in the fitting and can be replaced at any time. The classic double-bit key lock is more cost-effective but logistically more demanding – especially when multiple people need access.

  • How many firearms may I store behind a Class 1 vault door?

With a Class 1 vault door certified to EN 1143-1 (Resistance Grade 1), you may store long guns, handguns, and ammunition in unlimited numbers and without spatial separation in your gun room. This fully complies with the strict legal requirements of the German Firearms Act (§ 36 WaffG) for hunters, sport shooters, gun collectors, and professional firearms carriers.

What wall thickness is required for installing a Class 1 vault door?

For the certified installation of a Class 1 vault door, a minimum wall thickness of 240 mm for solid masonry (e.g. brick or sand-lime brick) or at least 140 mm for reinforced concrete is required. Consult your firearms authority or insurance provider in advance.

Up to what amount are contents behind a Class 1 vault door insured?

A Class 1 vault door (Resistance Grade 1 per EN 1143-1) provides insurance coverage of up to €65,000 for private use and up to €20,000 for commercial use when professionally installed. By connecting to a certified burglar alarm system (BAS), the insured sum can generally be doubled.

Electronic lock or double-bit lock for the vault door?

From a practical standpoint, a certified electronic lock is best suited for vault doors, as no physical key needs to be securely stored or protected from unauthorized access. Hunters and sport shooters minimize the legal risk of key loss, while the classic double-bit key lock remains the more cost-effective but logistically demanding alternative.

  • Gun Safe & Vault Door – Installation and Anchoring

Why and how must a gun safe be anchored?

An unanchored gun safe does not fully meet the legal requirements. Anchoring prevents the safe from tipping when opened (as the heavy door makes it top-heavy) and prevents it from being carried away. Anchoring is a prerequisite for insurance coverage of your valuable firearms under your household contents insurance and in many cases even for official approval by the firearms authority. Thanks to sufficient floor and rear wall openings, anchoring is quick and straightforward.

How to anchor a gun safe correctly – Our tips

Turning a cellar room into a gun room – how does it work?

For new construction, a standard vault door can be used as the wall opening is yet to be created. In an existing building, however, the door must adapt to the wall. With a custom-made vault door from Gunshome, an ordinary existing cellar room becomes a certified gun room – in existing structures and often without any wall modifications. The old interior door is removed and the new vault door is fitted precisely. Before-and-after photos show how easily the transformation can be achieved.

Installing a vault door – what needs to be considered?

Every location has its own characteristics – and that is exactly why we manufacture our vault doors to custom dimensions. Our practical example shows what needs to be considered during planning and implementation, and how we find the perfect solution for almost every structural challenge.
