9 Installing the gun room door: Note for self-assembly

9 - Screwing the door frame

Gun room door GUNSHOME City

Screwing a door frame is usually a simple task that can be accomplished even by DIY enthusiasts with basic manual skills.

The most important principle: a screw connection is only as strong as the surrounding building material (i.e., your wall) allows. Therefore, first check whether the included mounting hardware is suitable for your wall and, if necessary, obtain more suitable anchoring material.

You can find help at specialist retailers, e.g. HILTI or Würth.

Removing the door often makes installation easier. However, this option depends on the installation type and the door opening direction; in some cases, removing the door is not possible. For flat transition rails, recesses may need to be made in the floor area of the room beforehand.

There are three possible mounting options:

- when mounted from outside in front of the wall :

Impact plugs are included, which you first screw into the welded-in threaded sleeves. Now place the door frame in front of the wall from the outside and align it. Then hit the door frame at the positions of the impact plugs with a rubber hammer to get an impression of the impact plug in the plaster. Remove the door frame and drill all the way through the wall at the marked points. Unscrew the impact plugs and insert the threaded rods into the threaded sleeves. Now put the door frame back in place and guide the threaded rods through the wall holes. Now carefully align the door so that it is plumb and level* and fix the frame firmly (wedges, screw clamps, etc.), and secure the threaded rods from the room side with washers and nuts. Threadlocker is better than overtightening the nuts, which can cause the frame to warp.

- for installation in the wall passage :

Place the door in position. Now carefully align the door plumb and level* and securely secure the frame (wedges, screw clamps, etc.). Now drill through the existing holes in the frame or mounting brackets into the masonry. Clean the drill hole and insert the appropriate anchoring material according to the manufacturer's specifications. Screw the connections tightly, but do not overtighten.

- when mounting from the room side against the wall :

Place the door in position. Now carefully align the door plumb and level* and securely secure the frame (with wedges, screw clamps, etc.). Drill through the existing holes in the frame or the mounting brackets into the masonry. Clean the drill hole and insert the appropriate anchoring material according to the manufacturer's specifications. Screw the connections tightly, but do not overtighten.

* The door and frame are precisely matched at the factory. Take special care when aligning them. If the alignment is incorrect, the door frame may warp, making adjustments necessary, even after some use, by realigning and/or reworking the bolt recesses in the frame. Without these adjustments, the door will not close properly.

We assume no liability for the accuracy of fit or necessary rework in the case of warped frames due to inadequate alignment.

Depending on the situation, you can now plaster the frame, seal it with permanently elastic sealant and carry out the final painting work.

These instructions are recommendations; we expressly assume no liability at this point, particularly in the event of incorrect installation and subsequent malfunctions.
